The Evolution of Medical Care
Things are changing fast in this old world, and medicine is no exception. In my career, I have seen amazing things become routine to the great benefit of patients. We have made the nearly impossible nearly routine in many cases, so much so that incredible technology or procedures are almost boring in their effectiveness.
Bedside diagnosis and treatment have also changed a lot, with products and tools and tests and algorithms that have improved and simplified patient care in many, many conditions.
Advancements in Wound Care
Wound care is no exception. I have seen the growing use of “skin substitutes” which are materials with biological activity, growth factors or even living cells. The use of these products is routine now and allows wounds to heal that would not have healed in the not-to-distant past. It’s all routine now…and it comes to me from in a box from Fedex, like a package of socks from Amazon.
All of this can be great for patients, and we embrace it and work hard to keep up with it.
Challenges in Modern Healthcare
There have been other changes, worse for patients and worse for doctors. Paperwork has gone up, and insurance has made everything more difficult. This is an aggravation for everyone involved, and there is no real answer available to individuals.
Maybe someone running the show will suddenly be stricken with good sense.
Our Approach: Personal Attention
In the meantime, doctors still need to take care of people. We believe that this is best accomplished beginning with a careful physician evaluation. It takes time to get it right. As the case progresses, attention is required to make sure everything is going well, and sometimes changes are required as the patient’s condition changes.
This is what we offer. Careful evaluation by an experienced doctor, ongoing monitoring, taking the time to get it right…old school.
Our Commitment
We recognize and embrace the many advancements that can help our patients. But we always remember the heart of the matter, which is a doctor and a patient working together to provide the best possible care.
That is our primary focus.
